Book tastes

I recently finished Loving Frank by Nancy Horan, and enjoyed it. I'd be interested in reading more historical fiction, especially if it takes place in the 20th century. I think I'd gain a lot by reading it, taking notes on what to look up, and then learning more about the historical events portrayed (even if they didn't turn out that way).
I'm also looking for a history of China from 2000 to 2020. I had stopped reading about the country, at least reading closely, starting in the mid-2000s, so it's somewhat a gap in my knowledge. If it's a biography of President Xi, so be it, but I'd like to read something more general.
