SantaThingSantaThing Entry #352

Book tastes

For fiction: murder mystery / thriller / adventure, preferably with a historical and/or scientific context (The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco and Angels & Demons by Dan Brown would be the perfect examples)
For nonfiction: history (Asian, European, warfare) / science (physics, chemistry, mathematics) / architecture / engineering / geography / languages (German, Italian, Korean, Spanish), or any combination of the above

Don't get this!

For fiction: YA and vampire lit
For nonfiction: textbooks; books about WWII

Other notes

I still haven't catalogued my entire library here so to avoid duplicates, please avoid getting books by Agatha Christie, Nora Roberts, Umberto Eco, Dan Brown, Tess Gerritsen, and Tim Marshall.
For nonfiction: "any combination of the above" means that a book about the history of German architecture and is written originally in German would be a very nice find.

rlb0616: Check out Antony Beevor, especially his new book on the Russian Revolution (Nov 27, 2023, 12:26pm)
MDGentleReader:

Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid, The Making of the Atomic Bomb, and Die Vermessung der Welt appear in list of books that neiljonlouie should borrow from me (Nov 26, 2023, 10:07pm)
jezebellydancer: Have you read any Margaret Fraser? I read _A Play of Heresy_ set in 1438 in Coventry during Corpus Christi when a murder happens while a merchant guild is prepping their play. This is part of a series about Joliffe the Player. I've been purging my books and this is one on my To Sell list. I'm downsizing and can no longer have wall-to-wall bookcases and a bedroom devoted to my library. :( (Nov 26, 2023, 9:38pm)
