Book tastes

Alisha would like Lucy Foley's "The Guest List." She reads anything mystery, thriller, or creepy. Maybe not Sherlock Holmes mysteries with the sluething, but that's not off the table. Add some women's fiction to it, and wham! You've got her. She likes "the psychological twist," "the surprise ending," "the long walk in the forest past an abandoned asylum," and "is there a ghost or isn't there?" Keep her on her toes and she's happy. She teaches high school English, so good writing is a must. She would take a good YA or two, but also adult for herself.

Don't get this!

Graphic horror.

katemcangus: Happy reading! (Dec 4, 2023, 1:40pm)
katemcangus: I wanted to order The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova by it was too expensive. Check it out if you haven't! (Dec 4, 2023, 1:36pm)
ForeignCircus: recommend the Sam Clair series by Judith Flanders (first book is A Murder of Magpies). also the Ruth Galloway series by Elly Griffiths (first book is The Crossing Places). (Dec 3, 2023, 9:51pm)
_missnomer_: The Paris Apartment is similar to the guest list, and I thought it was better.

You might consider None Of This Is True. It's thriller, the MCs are female, twisty, and you finish trying to figure out what just happened. (Nov 26, 2023, 9:12am)
saroz: I think she'd probably really like Sarah Waters' books - either "Affinity" or "The Little Stranger" should be workable.

If she doesn't have Shirley Jackson's "The Haunting of Hill House" or Joan Lindsay's "Picnic at Hanging Rock," she should, as they completely fit the qualities you've described.

Some little tiny odd part of me wonders if she might like Joanne Harris' "Gentlemen and Players," too. (Nov 26, 2023, 1:52am)
